Snootl ("Snootl", "we", "us", or "our") provides websites, applications, APIs, widgets, a browser extension, and related services (collectively, the "Services"). The Services allow authorized users to create and manage visual feedback, comments, tasks, attachments, and screenshots for websites connected to a Snootl project.

This Privacy Policy explains what personal information we process, why we process it, how we share and protect it, and the choices and rights available to you.

1. Information We Process

Account and authentication information

When you create an account or sign in, we process information such as your name, email address, company name, and login credentials. The browser extension transmits your email address and password to the Snootl service for authentication and stores session and refresh tokens in Firefox extension-local storage. Authentication tokens are not exposed to visited websites.

Browsing and project context

When you are signed in to the extension, it may transmit the current page URL, origin, hostname, and pathname to the Snootl API to determine whether the page is connected to a project you are authorized to access.

If a page contains a Snootl widget, its public project API key may also be transmitted for server-side project verification. Snootl does not use browsing information for advertising or unrelated analytics.

Feedback and customer content

When you deliberately submit feedback through the Services, Snootl may process:

Comments, feedback messages, and task descriptions
Selected element metadata and page position
The current page URL
Files and attachments selected by the user
Screenshots enabled or captured by the user
Drawing annotations
Console diagnostics
Browser, operating-system, device, screen, and viewport information

Submitted feedback is shared with authorized members of the relevant Snootl workspace or project. You should not submit personal information or other content that is not necessary for the feedback you intend to provide.

When you access or interact with our websites, applications, APIs, or an embedded Snootl widget, we may process information such as your IP address, browser and device type, operating system, pages viewed, interactions, timestamps, and relevant page URLs. We may also collect information you provide when you contact support or otherwise communicate with us.

Billing information

If you purchase a paid plan, payment providers may process your payment details. Snootl may receive payment-related metadata, such as billing contact details, subscription status, transaction identifiers, and limited payment method information. We do not receive or store full payment card numbers unless expressly stated at the time of collection.

Cookies and similar technologies

We use cookies and similar technologies to operate the Services, maintain sessions, remember preferences, and protect accounts. Some technologies may be used when a Snootl widget is loaded or used. If analytics is configured on the Snootl marketing website and you consent, Google Tag Manager may load analytics tags that measure page views and marketing-site actions. We do not include registration form or account data in those marketing events. Where required by law, we request consent before using non-essential cookies. You can manage cookies through the available consent tool or your browser settings, although disabling essential cookies may affect the Services.

Optional technical and interaction data

Firefox allows users to disable the technicalAndInteraction data permission. When it is disabled, the extension does not transmit browser and operating-system information, extension version information, or console diagnostics. Disabling this permission does not prevent the primary feedback features from working.

2. How We Use Information

We use personal information to:

Provide, operate, maintain, and improve the Services
Authenticate users, maintain sessions, and secure accounts
Match websites with Snootl projects that a user is authorized to access
Create and manage feedback, tasks, comments, attachments, and screenshots
Process transactions and manage subscriptions
Diagnose errors when technical diagnostics are enabled
Respond to support requests and other communications
Detect, prevent, and investigate abuse, fraud, and security incidents
Comply with legal obligations and enforce our agreements

Snootl does not sell personal information.

3. Legal Bases for Processing

Where applicable law requires a legal basis, we process personal information as necessary to perform a contract with you, pursue our legitimate interests in operating and securing the Services, comply with legal obligations, or act with your consent. Where processing is based on consent, you may withdraw that consent at any time. Withdrawing consent does not affect processing that occurred before the withdrawal.

We may share information:

With authorized members of the relevant Snootl workspace or project
With service providers that support hosting, storage, communications, email, billing, analytics, and security
With professional advisers, auditors, insurers, or financing parties where reasonably necessary
With authorities, regulators, or other parties when required by law or necessary to protect users, Snootl, or the public
With a successor in connection with a merger, acquisition, financing, reorganization, bankruptcy, or sale of assets

Service providers may process information only for the services they provide to Snootl and under appropriate contractual obligations.

5. Project Owners and Embedded Widgets

Organizations and individuals that create Snootl workspaces or projects may determine what feedback they request and how submitted information is used. Depending on the circumstances, they may act as the controller or business responsible for that information, while Snootl processes it on their behalf.

Website owners that embed the Snootl widget are responsible for providing any notices and obtaining any consents required for their use of the widget. Questions about a specific project's use of submitted feedback should first be directed to that project's owner.

6. International Data Transfers

Your information may be processed in countries other than the country where you live. Where required, we use appropriate safeguards for international data transfers, such as contractual protections or other legally recognized transfer mechanisms.

7. Data Retention

We retain personal information only for as long as reasonably necessary to provide the Services, maintain the relevant account or project, comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, enforce agreements, and protect the security of the Services. Retention periods may vary based on the type of information and why it is processed.

Project feedback is generally retained while the relevant account or project remains active, or until it is deleted by an authorized user, subject to backups and legal or security requirements. Extension session data remains in Firefox extension-local storage until the user signs out, clears extension data, or removes the extension.

8. Your Choices and Rights

You can:

Disable optional technical and interaction data in Firefox
Choose whether to include a screenshot
Choose which files and feedback to submit
Manage cookie preferences where a consent tool is available
Sign out to remove the locally stored session
Remove the extension to delete its local data

Depending on where you live, you may also have the right to access, correct, delete, or receive a copy of your personal information; restrict or object to its processing; withdraw consent; or complain to a data protection authority. These rights may be subject to legal exceptions.
